The head of Israel's internal security agency, Shin Bet, David Zini, stated in July 2026 that his primary qualification for the role was his ability to be 'loyal to the elected echelon, regardless of their opinion.' Zini's appointment in October 2025 by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was controversial, occurring despite a severe conflict of interest ruling by the Deputy Attorney General due to ongoing Shin Bet investigations into Netanyahu's associates.
