Father Killed in West Bank Terror Attack While Shielding Son

Natanel Shokrun, a father of six, was killed in a terrorist attack in the Binyamin region on September 20th, when a Hamas operative opened fire on his car. His 16-year-old son, Yoav, recounted that his father told him to run as bullets struck their vehicle. Yoav survived and managed to signal a nearby IDF tracker who engaged the attacker. Natanel, though initially showing a pulse, succumbed to his wounds later at Beilinson Hospital.

Yoav spoke with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on September 22nd, relaying his desire for more than just retribution against the perpetrators. "It's time to do something that will change the whole situation, and this should have been done yesterday," the teen stated.

Natanel Shokrun, a high-tech systems analyst, was remembered by his uncle Jackie as a unique individual who balanced diverse interests, including sailing, Torah study, technology, and travel. He was known for his ability to connect with people and resolve conflicts peacefully. His wife, Meirav, described him as a supportive husband and a meticulous planner, noting that he helped Yoav escape in his final moments. The couple had planned to celebrate their wedding anniversary abroad after the holidays.

The terrorist, identified as 37-year-old Hamas operative Qadri Samara, reportedly acted alone. He allegedly targeted Shokrun's vehicle near the settlement of Neve Tzuf, taking advantage of the pre-Yom Kippur period when people visit a local spring. An IDF tracker wounded Samara, who then fled to a clinic in Ramallah, where he was apprehended by Duvdevan special forces while in a hospital bed.

Natanel Shokrun was buried in the settlement of Alei Zahav, where he was described by community leaders as a beloved, pious, and dedicated family man. The Shokrun family is a long-standing part of the Alei Zahav community, and residents pledged their support to Natanel's widow and children.
