Slain Father Sacrifices Life to Save Son in West Bank Attack

Hundreds gathered at the Alei Zahav cemetery on Monday evening to mourn Netanel Shakron, a father of six who was killed in a terrorist shooting attack at the Ein Ria spring in the Binyamin region shortly before Yom Kippur. Shakron had gone to the spring with his 16-year-old son, Yoav, for a ritual immersion before the fast. When the attacker opened fire, Shakron warned his son in his final moments, enabling Yoav to escape and survive.

During the funeral, Yoav thanked his father for saving his life, recalling his father's warning that allowed him to flee. He also apologized to his father for any past hurts and pledged to continue forward with his family. Shakron's wife, Merav, also paid tribute to her husband's courage and devotion, detailing his meticulous preparations for a family trip abroad intended to strengthen their bond.

Regional Council of Samaria Chairman Yossi Dagan eulogized Shakron as an exemplary father and community member, highlighting his final act of heroism in saving his son. Dagan urged the Israeli government to implement a stronger security response, calling for a broad military operation, the reestablishment of checkpoints, and a campaign to seize illegal weapons. He emphasized that terrorist infrastructure must be targeted and that the price must be paid on the ground, stating, "This is our land."
