Israeli Basketball Association Launches Reforms for National League

The Israeli Basketball Association is implementing a significant reform for the upcoming 2026/27 Winner National League season, aiming to elevate its status and exposure. The league's opening night event, held recently, gathered team representatives, players, coaches, sponsors, and sports officials to mark the occasion.

Key changes include moving league games to Fridays, establishing an external board comprised of business and professional leaders, and introducing incentives for clubs based on fan attendance and digital asset management. The association also launched an award for former players recognized for their contributions to the league, honoring Ilan Berkovich, Elad Hoffman, and Yoni Nir.

Amos Frishman, Chairman of the Basketball Association, stated that the perception of the National League is changing, emphasizing its role as the foundation of Israeli basketball. "We will brand this league accordingly and strengthen its exposure," Frishman said, expressing confidence that the reforms will propel the league forward and wishing for a successful season with full arenas.

Ron Vorotitzky, Chairman of the Winner National League Directorate, echoed Frishman's sentiments, highlighting the league's critical role in nurturing future players. He noted the league's progress over the past six years, including substantial support from the Toto (Sports Betting Board) and the Ministry of Culture and Sport, and called for the teams' commitment to the ongoing efforts.
