Israeli Basketball Association Launches Reforms for National League

The Israeli Basketball Association is initiating a significant reform for the upcoming 2026/27 Winner National League season, aiming to elevate its status and exposure. The league's opening night event, held recently, brought together team representatives, players, coaches, sponsors, and sports officials to mark the occasion.

Key changes under the reform, spearheaded by Basketball Association Chairman Amós Priesman, include shifting league games to Fridays, establishing an external board composed of business and professional leaders, and introducing incentives for teams based on fan attendance and digital asset management. The event also saw the launch of a "National League Honoree" award for former players with strong ties to the league. This year's recipients included Ilan Berkovich, Elad Hoffman, and Yoni Nir, all recognized for their contributions.

Amós Priesman stated that the association's perception of the National League is changing, emphasizing its role as the foundation of Israeli basketball. "We will brand this league accordingly and strengthen its exposure," he said, expressing confidence that the implemented measures will propel the league forward. He wished for a successful season with full arenas.

Ron Vorotitzky, Chairman of the Winner National League Directorate, echoed Priesman's sentiments, highlighting the league's critical role in nurturing future Israeli basketball talent. He noted that the opening night is part of ongoing reforms, which have included substantial support from the Toto (Sports Betting Board) and the Ministry of Culture and Sport over the past six years. Vorotitzky urged teams to actively participate in these initiatives and wished everyone a successful and enjoyable season.
