Kiryat Malachi Announces City-Wide Backgammon Championship with Cash Prizes

The Kiryat Malachi Municipality and the Fund for Development are organizing a city-wide backgammon tournament to be held during the intermediate days of the Sukkot holiday. The competition will award cash prizes to the winners: 1,000 shekels for first place and 500 shekels for second and third place.

The tournament will operate on a knockout system, with the draw for matches taking place on the morning of the event in the presence of registered participants. Judges will be present to resolve any disputes on the board, ensuring fair play.

Beyond the competitive aspect, organizers aim to recreate the atmosphere of the city's old neighborhoods from the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. Attendees can expect nostalgic music, traditional black coffee, mint tea, and freshly fried "sfinge" pastries.

The backgammon championship is part of a broader schedule of Sukkot activities in Kiryat Malachi, which includes a chess championship and a large water party for children and youth, for which over 200 tickets have already been sold. Participation in the backgammon tournament is free for all ages for Kiryat Malachi residents, but pre-registration is required.

The event is scheduled for September 29th at 10:00 AM in the plaza of the Magshimim Center. Mayor Eliyahu Zohar stated that the Sukkot events are diverse and cater to all ages, providing an excellent opportunity to celebrate community togetherness.
