National Insurance to Refund Overcharged Fees Following Court Settlement

Israel's National Insurance Institute (NII) announced it will issue refunds to individuals who were charged a NIS 25 fee for obtaining a copy of their personal file. This follows a March 19, 2026, ruling by the Regional Labor Court in Jerusalem, which approved a settlement in a class-action lawsuit. The lawsuit, filed by Daniel Cohen against the NII, challenged the fee for file copies.

The settlement mandates that the NII refund the NIS 25 payments, plus linkage to the consumer price index from the payment date until the refund date. This applies to payments made at NII branches in Jerusalem between December 1, 2020, and March 19, 2026.

Individuals eligible for the refund are those who paid the fee for a file copy at Jerusalem branches within the specified period. To claim the refund, eligible individuals must submit a request by November 22, 2026. Applicants need to provide proof of payment. However, the NII stated that those without proof can still request the institute to locate the payment record using their identification number.

Requests can be submitted through the NII's personal website or via email to specific Jerusalem branches.
