National Insurance Institute to Refund 25 Shekels Following Class Action Lawsuit

Israel's National Insurance Institute (NII) announced it will issue refunds of 25 shekels to insured individuals. This follows a Jerusalem Regional Labor Court ruling that approved a settlement in a class-action lawsuit. The lawsuit, filed by Daniel Cohen against the NII, concerned fees paid for copies of personal files.

The settlement mandates the NII to reimburse policyholders who paid the 25 shekel fee at Jerusalem branches for a copy of their personal file. This applies to payments made between December 1, 2020, and March 19, 2026. The refunded amount will include linkage to the consumer price index from the date of payment until the actual refund.

Individuals eligible for the refund can submit a request through the personal inquiry section on the NII website or via email to specific branches. The Jerusalem branches handling these requests are the General branch at 4 Shimon Ben Shetach Street and the North Jerusalem branch at 16 Haim Bar Lev Street. The deadline for submitting refund requests is November 22, 2026.

Applicants must attach proof of payment with their request. Alternatively, they can ask the NII to locate the payment using their identification number.
