Israel Prepares for Escalation with Iran Amidst US Tensions

In response to escalating tensions with Iran and following threats from U.S. President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened a security assessment meeting on Tuesday. Israeli officials expressed concern that the Iranian front could ignite soon. Amidst the heightened tension, it remains unclear when Netanyahu will depart for the United Nations.

A senior Israeli officer outlined several potential scenarios the military is preparing for. These include a scenario where Israel is attacked by missiles and retaliates significantly, a scenario dubbed 'Roaring Lion 2.0' involving a U.S.-backed war, and a scenario named 'With the Lion' where the IDF operates alone against Iran.

These preparations come in the wake of President Trump's remarks at the UN General Assembly, where he indicated a "big decision" regarding Iran was forthcoming, stating, "Either a deal or destruction." Trump also referenced the 9/11 attacks and the October 7th attack in Israel, which he attributed to Iran-funded terrorists, highlighting the Iranian regime's human rights abuses and its potential nuclear ambitions.

Trump asserted his administration's proactive stance against threats, contrasting it with others who he claimed merely spoke about peace and strength. Meanwhile, an Iranian official claimed Tehran offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within a week if the U.S. eased military pressure. This initiative, according to the official, had received approval from Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and National Security Council head Mohsen Rezai. The official also noted that while a meeting between Trump and Iranian President Rouhani was not on the agenda at the UN, progress towards a potential agreement had been made.
