Erdogan Denounces Israel at UN; Israeli Delegation Walks Out
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan harshly criticized Israel during his speech at the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday. He called on world nations to recognize a Palestinian state and condemned the ongoing war in Gaza.
In response to Erdogan's remarks, members of the Israeli delegation to the UN walked out of the assembly hall in protest. Erdogan's speech also touched upon a US decision to prevent Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas from attending the UN assembly, which Erdogan described as an injustice. "We will voice the Palestinian people's voice to the world, and I call on all countries to recognize a Palestinian state," Erdogan stated. He expressed hope for a future where an independent Palestinian state, based on 1967 borders with territorial contiguity and East Jerusalem as its capital, would be established.
Erdogan further urged the international community to exert significant pressure on Israel, stating that the Israeli government refuses to halt the "killing in Gaza" and to proceed with the second phase of the "Trump plan."
