Ultra-Orthodox Businessman Acquires 11 City Market Stores for $9.5 Million

Daniel Weidinger, former CEO of the "Yesh Chesed" chain, is significantly expanding his "100 and Beyond" supermarket network with the acquisition of 11 "City Market" branches for approximately 35 million shekels (about $9.5 million), including inventory. The deal, which awaits approval from the Antitrust Commissioner, involves stores located in Tel Aviv-Yafo, Kfar Saba, Rehovot, Be'er Sheva, Kiryat Ono, Hadera, Ramla, Or Yehuda, Gedera, and Be'er Yaakov. Notably, all acquired branches are Sabbath-observant and were closed on weekends under previous ownership.

Weidinger, a prominent figure in the food industry who managed "Yesh Chesed" for 12 years, co-founded "100 and Beyond" with investors in early 2026. The chain launched a large branch in Ashdod with delivery services and is now expanding into neighborhood stores nationwide.

"City Market," founded and managed by Yossi Schwartz with around 70 branches, plans to reinvest the proceeds from the sale into accelerated growth. The company intends to invest about 20 million shekels in opening six new branches in Tel Aviv, Rishon LeZion, Petah Tikva, Holon, Netivot, and Be'er Yaakov. Additionally, "City Market" plans to establish a logistics center, develop its own import operations, and open approximately 15 more branches in 2027.
