City Market Sells 11 Branches to New Chain '100 Plus'

The Israeli supermarket chain City Market is selling 11 of its branches to a new retail chain called "100 Plus" (100 ומעבר) for approximately 35 million shekels. The deal, which is subject to approval by the Antitrust Commissioner, will significantly expand the reach of "100 Plus," a company established earlier this year and led by Haredi businessman Daniel Verdyger.

"100 Plus" currently operates primarily from a large branch in Ashdod. Verdyger is a veteran of the food retail sector, having previously managed "Yes Chasdei" (יש חסד), Shufersal's Haredi discount format, which under his leadership grew to 26 branches nationwide. Verdyger launched "100 Plus" in early 2026 with partners.

The 11 branches being sold are located in various cities across Israel, including Be'er Yaakov, Ramla, Kfar Saba, Be'er Sheva, Kiryat Ono, Rehovot, Hadera, Or Yehuda, Tel Aviv-Yafo, and Gedera. Upon completion of the transaction, these stores will operate under the "100 Plus" brand.

Concurrently with the sale, City Market announced plans to open six new branches in Tel Aviv, Rishon LeZion, Netivot, Holon, Be'er Yaakov, and Petah Tikva, representing an investment of about 20 million shekels. The company stated that it opened eight new branches in the past year and plans to open approximately 15 more by 2027.

Yossi Schwartz, founder and CEO of City Market, described the sale as a significant business move that aligns with the company's strategy to strengthen its operations and expand nationwide. He emphasized that the simultaneous opening of new branches demonstrates confidence in City Market's growth potential. City Market, founded in 2012, currently operates dozens of urban-format branches, employs around 900 people, and some stores operate 24/7.
