IDF Weapons Cache Found Hidden in Olive Tree Trunk in Yarka
Border Police officers in the northern coastal district discovered a cache of weapons and ammunition hidden in the village of Yarka on Tuesday. The discovery was made during a sweep operation aimed at combating illegal weapons possession, as part of preparations for the Yom Kippur holiday.
One officer noticed a suspicious item, identified as an IDF blasting cap, which led to an expanded search. The subsequent search uncovered a significant quantity of military equipment, including two IDF hand grenades, a silencer, weapon parts, and standard magazines for M16 and Tavor rifles.
Further investigation revealed a nylon-wrapped item concealed within the trunk of an olive tree. This item turned out to be two IDF ammunition crates filled with standard ammunition. All confiscated items were transferred to the Western Galilee police station for further investigation.
The operation was conducted by the task force in the Asher region, which focuses on combating illegal arms.
