Border Police Discover Cache of IDF Weapons Hidden in Olive Tree Trunk

Border Police officers on Tuesday discovered a dangerous cache of weapons concealed within an olive tree trunk in the town of Yarka in the Western Galilee. The find included two Israeli military explosive devices, a silencer, weapon parts, magazines, and a large quantity of ammunition.

The operation was part of ongoing efforts by the Border Police to locate illegal weapons in the northern region. Initial suspicion arose when a device believed to be an Israeli military detonator fuse was found, prompting expanded searches. Officers then spotted a plastic-wrapped item hidden inside the hollowed-out trunk of an olive tree.

Inside the wrapping, they found two IDF ammunition crates containing 7.62mm caliber ammunition. The cache was transferred to security forces for further investigation. This seizure follows a series of similar operations by the Israel Police in the Northern District in recent weeks.

Approximately one month prior, officers from the Galilee Special Patrol Unit found a significant weapons cache near the town of Rama using metal detectors. That find included six rocket-propelled grenades, Kalashnikov magazines, and substantial ammunition.

According to police reports, over 590 lethal weapons have been seized in the Northern District since the beginning of the year. Security forces are continuously working to locate hidden weapons, arrest armed individuals, and prevent shooting incidents and violent crime in the north.
