Post-Yom Kippur Meals: Israel Hayom Offers Simple Recipes for Breaking the Fast
Following the Yom Kippur fast, which requires careful attention to diet before and after, Israel Hayom has provided two simple recipes for a gentle return to eating. The fast, which involves abstaining from food and water for approximately 25 hours, necessitates a delicate approach to reintroducing food to the body.
The first recipe is for a warming spiced tea latte, designed to provide gentle support without overwhelming the digestive system. The drink is made with water, milk, and a blend of spices including cinnamon, star anise, cardamom, ginger, turmeric, and nutmeg, simmered together for about fifteen minutes. Black tea is included, but can be substituted with a caffeine-free alternative for those sensitive to caffeine in the evening.
The second offering is a simple homemade orange cake, intended as a light accompaniment to the tea latte. The recipe involves combining dry ingredients like flour, semolina, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and zest in one bowl, and wet ingredients such as orange yogurt, olive oil, and fresh juice in another. The wet and dry mixtures are then combined to form a batter, which is baked at 180 degrees Celsius (356 degrees Fahrenheit) for 45 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Earlier, the publication had discussed why Yom Kippur could potentially lead to tragedy.
