East Jerusalem Man Kills Colleague Over Debt, Police Say
Police suspect a man killed his 61-year-old colleague, Fatima Al-Rajabi, in East Jerusalem after she demanded repayment of a significant debt. The suspect, who reportedly worked with Al-Rajabi for years at Al-Maqased Hospital, had borrowed money from her over time and was allegedly involved in gambling. He refused her recent demands for the money back.
Investigators believe the suspect met Al-Rajabi last Sunday, struck her repeatedly on the head with a hammer, and then buried her body. The suspect has confessed to the crime and reenacted the murder for investigators.
According to the Abraham Fund Initiative, Al-Rajabi's death brings the number of Arab citizens killed in violent circumstances since the start of the year to 179. This figure represents a 3.2% decrease compared to the 185 deaths recorded during the same period last year.
