Man Claims Hotel Led Him to Homophobic Assailant in Jerusalem

A musician from Tel Aviv claims he was subjected to a severe homophobic attack at a Jerusalem hotel after reporting threats to management. David Lerner, 28, stated that while staying at the hotel with his mother, another guest approached him and threatened his life if he returned to the pool area wearing swim trunks, known as a "speedo." Lerner reported the incident to hotel management, who he alleges then escorted him back to the pool area to identify the aggressor.

According to Lerner, upon confronting the man, he was subjected to intense homophobic slurs by the man and his family. When Lerner began filming the verbal abuse, the assailant's partner allegedly knocked his phone away. Shortly after, the assailant allegedly pushed Lerner and punched him twice in the forehead. Lerner sought medical attention at a hospital and filed a police report, reporting severe headaches and trauma.

Lerner's attorney, Assaf Sharaff, stated that the hotel failed to protect his client, instead leading him directly to the person who had threatened him, thereby escalating the situation. The attorney added that the hotel allowed the assailant and his family to remain on the premises even after the attack. The police confirmed that the suspect is a tourist, not an Israeli resident, and that he was questioned and removed from the premises. The hotel issued a statement condemning violence and confirming that police were called and the matter was handled with utmost seriousness.
