Israeli Man and Partner Assaulted in Homophobic Attack Near Paris Park

Tomer Eyal, a 32-year-old Israeli living in France, and his partner Alan were attacked last Friday at Sherwood Adventure Park, located about 40 minutes north of Paris. The couple was holding hands when a group of teenagers began shouting homophobic slurs at them. Initially, some girls from the group tried to calm the situation, but shortly after, about eight youths surrounded and physically assaulted them. Several attackers wielded sticks and other objects, including metal climbing gear.

Tomer described the attack as intense, with three assailants on Alan and four on himself. Despite his efforts to stop the violence by pleading and holding hands with the attackers, the assault continued. They called for security assistance, but no help arrived for a prolonged period. Tomer recalled fearing for their lives during the attack. Eventually, bystanders intervened, and the couple received first aid from nurses at the park. They declined hospital treatment and wanted to return home.

French police arrived at the scene and questioned the couple, with Alan communicating due to Tomer's limited French. No arrests were made at the time. Later, Alan's friend, a criminal lawyer, contacted the local police station but was told no case was opened, citing other more serious incidents and a low priority for homophobic crimes. Yesterday, Tomer and Alan filed an official complaint after spending about two hours at the station, where officers expressed surprise that no arrests had occurred during the attack.

Despite the traumatic experience, Tomer emphasized he will not let fear stop him from publicly expressing his love. He called on society to reject homophobia and urged witnesses of any attacks to intervene or seek help. The couple now awaits updates on the legal proceedings following their complaint.
