Israeli Man and Partner Assaulted in Homophobic Attack Near Paris Park

Tomer Eyal, a 32-year-old Israeli living in France, and his partner Alan were attacked last Friday at Sherwood Adventure Park, about 40 minutes north of Paris, in a homophobic assault. The couple was holding hands when a group of teenagers began shouting homophobic slurs at them. Initially, some girls from the group tried to calm the situation, but shortly after, about eight boys surrounded and physically assaulted them. Tomer described being attacked by multiple assailants, some wielding sticks and metal climbing gear, and said no security personnel responded promptly despite their calls for help.

The couple was eventually aided by bystanders and treated by park nurses for their injuries, though they declined hospital transport. French police arrived at the scene and questioned them, with Alan communicating due to Tomer's limited French. No arrests were made at the time. Later, Alan's friend, a criminal lawyer, contacted the local police station but was told no case was opened, citing other more serious incidents and a low priority for homophobic crimes.

Tomer and Alan returned to the police station the following day to file an official complaint, surprising officers that no arrests had been made. They are now awaiting further legal steps. Despite the attack, Tomer emphasized he will continue to publicly express his love and called for greater awareness and intervention against homophobic violence. He urged witnesses of attacks to seek help or intervene rather than remain passive.
