The IDF is fighting around what it calls one of Hezbollah’s largest and most strategic terror infrastructures in southern Lebanon, centered in the Beaufort area and near the Litani River. According to the report, about 30 Hezbollah fighters are currently trapped inside the tunnels, and military officials say the operation is the main effort in the current phase of the fighting.
The underground complex spans several areas, including a key section near the Ali al-Taher ridge and close to the Litani. It consists of multiple sub-complexes connected by one tunnel network that Hezbollah used to conduct combat operations. Israeli military sources assess that the site is a highly significant asset for Hezbollah, which is why the battle for it has continued stubbornly in recent days.
The IDF has struck the site many times from the air over the course of the war, but those attacks did not fully destroy it. Security officials say the structure must be reached physically, penetrated, and destroyed from within. The army now controls most, but not all, of the tunnel entrances.
Heavy clashes have also taken place in recent days around the village of Tebnit, southeast of Nabatieh, where IDF soldiers were wounded. Although the political echelon ordered a ceasefire in Lebanon yesterday, the army remains deployed in its defensive zone in southern Lebanon and is preparing for any scenario. It is also continuing operations in the main sectors, especially Tebnit and the Beaufort ridge, while monitoring threats from Iran and staying on high alert. The article also recalls that four IDF soldiers were killed overnight between Thursday and Friday when a suspected target hit the tank of their battalion commander, killing Lt. Col. Dor Gedalia Ben Shimon, Staff Sgt. Liav Kababia, Staff Sgt. Yoav Klein, and Staff Sgt. Nave Chabshush.
