Mass Selichot Prayers at Western Wall Expected to Draw Tens of Thousands
Tens of thousands of worshippers are expected to attend the central Selichot (penitential prayers) service at the Western Wall plaza on Thursday night. In anticipation of the large crowds, public transportation, including bus lines and the light rail, will operate throughout the night. Free 'Park and Ride' parking lots will be available for attendees.
The Selichot services are a significant tradition in the period leading up to Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, and Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. The Western Wall is the holiest site in Judaism and a focal point for prayer and pilgrimage, especially during the High Holy Days.
