Netanyahu Cuts US Visit Short, Cancels Musk Meeting Amidst Shifting Plans

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has significantly shortened his planned trip to the United States, reducing it to just a few hours in New York to address the UN General Assembly before returning to Israel. Initially, the visit was intended to span several days and included a meeting with entrepreneur Elon Musk in Texas. Netanyahu's team had already traveled to Texas to prepare for the talks, but the meeting was subsequently canceled on Netanyahu's decision, according to Israeli portal Ynet. The Texas trip faced logistical challenges, including the need for the prime minister's plane to refuel on U.S. soil.

Netanyahu is now scheduled to arrive in New York on September 24th, with his UN address set for 2:00 PM local time. Following his speech, he plans to depart immediately. A separate meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump was also not scheduled, despite efforts by Netanyahu's representatives to arrange one. The Trump administration cited time constraints as the reason for the absence of a meeting, as Trump is expected to return to Washington for a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping after his own UN address on Tuesday, September 22nd.

An additional factor contributing to the shortened trip may be the upcoming elections in Israel. According to an American source, the domestic political situation influenced Netanyahu's decision to alter his schedule. Consequently, the prime minister's U.S. visit will proceed with a reduced itinerary, omitting the trip to Texas, the meeting with Musk, and the planned talks with Trump.
