The story · English

A 13-year-old boy, Salem Ibrahim Abu Rqiq, from the Bedouin town of Tel al-Sabi in the Negev, died on Friday night. He had been hospitalized for two weeks following a collision between a vehicle and the bicycle he was riding. The accident also resulted in the death of his cousin, Salim Eid Abu Rqiq, at the time of the incident.

Salem was critically injured in the crash and his death was confirmed late Friday. The collision occurred on the road leading to the Eastern Islamic Cemetery in Tel al-Sabi. The two cousins were riding the bicycle when it was struck by a vehicle.

The death of Salem Abu Rqiq has cast a pall of grief over Tel al-Sabi and the wider Negev region.
