Teenager Fatally Hit by Car During Selichot Event in Hadera

A 17-year-old boy, Amihai Atia, was killed early this morning after being struck by a vehicle during a Selichot (penitential prayers) event in Hadera. Atia, a resident of the settlement of Itamar and a student at the Hitzim Yeshiva, was attending a large gathering organized by the Olga Yeshiva in cooperation with the Hadera Municipality. According to initial police investigations, the incident began with a confrontation between individuals, during which the teenager was hit by a car. Gunshots were later heard at the scene.

Atia was in the parking lot area when a car driven by a resident of Kafr Mandi reportedly sped towards him, hitting him and causing severe injuries. He was rushed to Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the car sustained minor injuries from gunfire and received medical treatment.

Police stated that the incident started with a dispute, followed by the car striking the teen and subsequent gunfire. A large police force secured the scene, collected evidence, and launched an investigation, which has since been transferred to the Central Unit of the Menashe region. Authorities have confirmed the motive is criminal and not terror-related.

Amihai, the son of Sagith and Yona Atia, is survived by five siblings, including a twin brother. He was described by the Itamar community as a beloved, principled, and vibrant youth, a significant figure in the local youth movement, and an active guide. The Shomron Regional Council, along with Itamar community leaders and educational and welfare teams, are providing support to the bereaved family, friends, and yeshiva students.
