Police Shooting of Arab Israeli Man Sparks Outrage, Road Closure in Umm al-Fahm

A young Arab Israeli man, Alaa Mahamid, was killed by police gunfire in the city of Umm al-Fahm on Thursday morning, according to the Popular Committee of Umm al-Fahm. The committee expressed condolences to Mahamid's family and the Khodor family, calling the incident "serious" and demanding a full investigation into the circumstances.

The Popular Committee rejected any police narratives that might explain the shooting, holding the police responsible for Mahamid's death and calling for the perpetrators to be held accountable. They demanded an independent and professional investigation committee, including a representative from Mahamid's family, to ensure transparency.

Following the shooting, Israeli forces closed the entrance to Umm al-Fahm, increasing tension in the city. Details regarding the duration of the closure and plans for reopening the road were not immediately available.

The Popular Committee urged residents and institutions in Umm al-Fahm to rally around Mahamid's family and prepare for public actions to be announced later.
