Umm Al-Fahm Municipality and Public Committee Plan Protests After Fatal Police Shooting

The Umm Al-Fahm municipality and its public committee held an emergency meeting Thursday evening following the fatal shooting of young man Alaa Muhammad Musa Mahamid by police officers earlier that day. The meeting, led by Mayor Dr. Samir Subhi, included representatives from Mahamid's family, municipal council members, public committee members, and activists.

Attendees discussed the circumstances of the incident, asserting that Mahamid was killed "in cold blood" without committing any offense or posing a threat to the police officers. They emphasized the danger of Border Police practices and their continuous assaults on citizens.

Following the meeting, Dr. Samir Subhi outlined agreed-upon protest steps. These include organizing a large, angry public funeral in coordination with the family, a protest rally at the city's main roundabout on Saturday at 5:00 PM, and a request for an emergency session of the Supreme Follow-up Committee and the National Committee in Umm Al-Fahm.

The municipality and committee also resolved to pursue legal action with the family's cooperation, pushing for an independent and impartial investigation separate from the Police Internal Investigations Department (Mahash).
