Hostage Survivor Bar Kupershtein Initiates Yom Kippur Reconciliation Event

Bar Kupershtein, a former hostage held by Hamas, has organized a unique reconciliation and gratitude ceremony ahead of Yom Kippur at the Hostages Square in Tel Aviv. The event aims to express thanks to those who fought for the hostages' release and to honor the memory of those who did not return.

Kupershtein explained in an interview that it was important for him to include the fallen in the ceremony, stating that a reconciliation evening is a fitting way to commemorate their souls. He described the event as a way for former hostages to find closure, likening it to the reconciliation prayers they held in the tunnels during captivity.

He shared a personal reflection on his upcoming Yom Kippur prayers, intending to express gratitude for his survival and seek forgiveness for any wrongdoings. Kupershtein also recounted his experience fasting in a Hamas tunnel in Gaza on Tisha B'Av, believing it might aid their release, which he feels ultimately occurred.

Previously, Kupershtein had spoken about his strengthened faith during his captivity. He detailed fasting with other hostages in the tunnel, a difficult undertaking that involved conserving food. He also recalled returning to the Re'im gathering site after his release and performing religious observances, emphasizing his desire to pray for life in contrast to the prayers of his captors.
