Elderly Taxi Driver Dies in Collision With Bus on Ayalon Highway
An elderly taxi driver died following a collision with a bus on Tel Aviv's Ayalon Highway near the "Keren Kayemeth" interchange. The taxi reportedly attempted to merge into the left-hand bus "special lane," or possibly to drive through it to the left shoulder, cutting off a fast-moving bus. The bus driver was unable to brake in time and crashed into the side of the taxi, crushing the car. Rescuers extracted the taxi driver from the wreckage, but he showed no signs of life. Paramedics transported the driver to Ichilov Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. Four other people were injured in the bus due to the sudden braking. A 69-year-old man sustained moderate injuries after hitting his head on a handrail, while three others suffered minor injuries.
