A woman died after a major fire broke out at the popular Viva Wyndham resort in the Dominican Republic. The blaze forced the urgent evacuation of about 1,700 guests and staff from the property as firefighters battled the flames.
Social media footage from the scene showed huge flames and thick smoke spreading across the area. The fire caused serious disruption to the resort’s normal operations at one of the country’s main tourist hubs.
Local authorities have opened a formal investigation to determine how the fire started. At this stage, the cause of the blaze remains unknown.
