Free Public Transport Offered on Election Day in Israel
Israel's Central Elections Committee announced that intercity public transportation will be free of charge on election day and starting from 8:00 PM the evening before. This benefit applies to intercity bus lines longer than 15 kilometers and all Israel Railways lines, open to the general public. The free rides commence on Monday, October 26, at 8:00 PM and will continue until the end of public transportation services on election day.
The initiative aims to enable citizens to exercise their right to vote without incurring travel costs on participating lines. For intercity buses, passengers can board without identification or a ticket, but they must verify in advance that their chosen route is included in the free service list, available through the Ministry of Transport's information center.
Travel on Israel Railways will also be free, though passengers will need a special travel ticket. These tickets can be obtained at service counters or ticket machines at train stations. Additionally, free transportation to and from Eilat will be available, subject to eligibility checks and advance registration with Egged's information centers.
