Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem Unveils World-Class Tech Upgrades
Jerusalem's Teddy Stadium has undergone significant technological upgrades, including the installation of a hybrid grass pitch and an advanced ground sensor system, mirroring technology used in the recent World Cup. These enhancements, completed by the municipal company Ariel, aim to ensure a high-quality playing surface capable of withstanding heavy usage.
The new hybrid turf combines natural grass with synthetic fibers for increased stability and durability, a standard feature in major international stadiums. The groundbreaking sensor system, a first in Israel, continuously monitors soil conditions like moisture, temperature, and salinity in real-time. This data allows maintenance teams, managed by stadium director Eliran Danin, to optimize irrigation and fertilization, leading to smarter, preventative care that reduces wear and tear.
Additional upgrades include advanced portable lighting systems from SGL System to aid grass growth in shaded areas, and special heating sheets to combat Jerusalem's cooler climate. The stadium also features renewed seating areas compliant with UEFA standards. Beyond the pitch, a commercial avenue is being constructed under the north stand to create a mixed-use urban space for sports and commerce.
These improvements coincide with the launch of Jerusalem's new L3 light rail line, directly connecting Yitzhak Navon train station to the sports complex. This aims to ease traffic congestion and parking issues during events. Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion stated the upgrades position the city as a leading sports capital, offering a top-tier experience for teams and fans, while Ariel CEO Uriel Menachem expressed confidence in the enhanced pitch's longevity and wished success to the local teams.
