Man Charged with Attempted Murder After Stabbing Spree Over Insult

By הודיה רן

The story · English

A 28-year-old man from Rehovot has been indicted for attempted murder after allegedly stabbing another man multiple times in the face and head. The incident, which occurred on August 27, began when the accused, Shahar Azulay, cursed at a passerby near a kiosk. The victim, who was with his girlfriend, commented on the curse, leading to an argument.

According to the indictment filed by the State Attorney's Office, Azulay initially threatened the victim, saying, "I'll show you what this is, I'll f*** you up." The kiosk owner asked everyone to leave the area. The victim and his girlfriend moved a short distance away.

Later that evening, around 9:33 PM, Azulay allegedly returned to the kiosk area on an electric bicycle, armed with a knife. He was heard threatening to "cut him" and "f*** him up." Three minutes later, he approached the victim, dismounted his bike, and repeatedly stabbed him in the face and head while saying, "I'll show you what this is now."

When the victim's girlfriend announced she was calling the police, Azulay cursed at her, fled on his e-bike, and discarded the knife. The victim was rushed to Kaplan Hospital in serious condition, requiring surgery. During the procedure, he lost his pulse and underwent two resuscitation attempts. He was placed on a ventilator for several days and subsequently developed neurological damage due to oxygen deprivation. He was transferred to neurological rehabilitation on September 9, still on a ventilator.

The prosecution has requested that Azulay be held in custody until the legal proceedings are concluded, citing his "reckless disregard for using severe violence and a cold weapon" and his "real danger to the public."
