Ed Sheeran Offers $2 Million Donation to Palestinians Amid Controversy

International music star Ed Sheeran reportedly offered to donate $2 million to aid Palestinians, a move that came to light after the owner of Gillette Stadium, Robert Kraft, removed rapper Macklemore from Sheeran's "warm-up" performance list. Macklemore had previously announced he would donate all his earnings, approximately $1 million, from Sheeran's tour to six Palestinian aid organizations.

Kraft revealed Sheeran's pledge on Thursday, stating the singer wished to "commit $2 million for aid in the region, in the fight against the humanitarian crisis." Kraft, who has a history of supporting initiatives that foster opportunities for both Palestinian and Israeli youth, expressed his personal views on the matter, emphasizing his long-standing support for peace-building efforts.

Sheeran himself has largely avoided political commentary and found himself at the center of a controversy. He sought to distance himself from the decision to remove Macklemore, clarifying that Macklemore's contract was directly with the promoter, not him. Sheeran stated that concertgoers do not expect a political forum at his shows and that his silence on personal views regarding the conflict is not indifference but a desire to create a space for music.

Following Macklemore's removal, other opening acts for Sheeran's tour also withdrew in protest. Finneas, brother of singer Billie Eilish, stated he stood with Palestine and its people, asserting that artists should not be silenced when speaking for the oppressed. Danish pop artist Lukas Graham and Irish singer Aaron Rowe also announced their withdrawal from the "Loop Tour."
