Two Arab Israelis Indicted for Shooting at Home, Exchanging Fire with Police

The Nazareth District Court has been presented with an indictment against two young men, aged 25 and 23, from the village of I'zirei, in northern Israel. They are accused of firing shots at a private residence in the village and subsequently engaging in a shootout with two police officers.

According to the indictment, filed by prosecutor Loai Azzam of the Northern District Prosecution, the defendants conspired with a third individual to shoot at the home of an I'zirei resident. They allegedly obtained a rifle and used a vehicle belonging to an acquaintance for the attack. On August 10, 2026, the three, masked and wearing gloves, arrived at the target house in the vehicle and fired numerous rounds, causing damage to several parked cars and the home's entrance door before fleeing.

Two police officers, who were in a nearby residence, heard the gunfire and pursued the suspects' vehicle. Near the entrance to the village of Rumana Al-Hayyib, the officers spotted the defendants and others outside the car. The indictment states that the defendants aimed the rifle at the officers and their patrol car, opening fire. The officers returned fire, leading to an exchange of shots. The suspects then escaped, abandoning the vehicle near the "Eshkol" site.

During a search of the abandoned vehicle, a phone belonging to one suspect and a wallet belonging to the car's owner were recovered, among other items. The incident resulted in significant damage to vehicles and the police patrol car. The charges against the two men include aggravated assault, illegal possession and transport of a firearm, firing a weapon under aggravated circumstances, altering a vehicle's identification, intentional damage, and obstruction of justice. The prosecution has requested the pre-trial detention of the accused.
