Prominent Rabbi Meir Shalom Hai Tangji, Leader of Makdash Shlomo Institutions, Passes Away
Rabbi Meir Shalom Hai Tangji, a prominent rabbi in Tel Zion and leader of the "Makdash Shlomo" institutions, has passed away. He was known as a close confidant of former Sephardic Chief Rabbi Ovadia Yosef and other leading rabbis.
Rabbi Tangji dedicated decades to Torah scholarship, teaching Halakha (Jewish law), and mentoring students. He established numerous students who followed his teachings and served as a spiritual guide for his community and beyond. He was also recognized for his warm demeanor, generosity, and concern for others.
In recent years, Rabbi Tangji served as the rabbi for the "Keren David" organization, which supports widows and orphans. Businessman Avitar Elbaz, chairman of "Keren David" and a close associate of the rabbi, eulogized him, stating, "We were privileged for years to have his counsel, blessing, and guidance. The rabbi was a guide for us in Torah and kindness, and his concern for widows and orphans came from the depths of his heart. This is a great loss to the world of Torah and to all who knew him."
His health had recently declined, and many prayed for his recovery. He passed away, leaving a void in the Jewish community. His funeral procession is scheduled for today at 1:00 PM, departing from the Sephardic Funeral Home in Har HaMenuchot, Jerusalem, where he will be laid to rest.
