This gathering comes amid escalating tensions with Tehran, which began on February 28th with a joint U.S.-Israeli operation and expanded to include Iranian attacks on U.S. bases and regional countries. Trump has expressed optimism about a potential resolution, stating he hopes "we are nearing the end of the war" and claiming to have received a direct message from Iran indicating its willingness to reach a diplomatic agreement, though he declined to provide details.

The Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman, view this meeting as critical. The Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global oil and gas supplies, has seen drastically reduced traffic, with only four tankers passing on Tuesday compared to a daily average of 18 the previous week. The situation was exacerbated by attacks on Saudi Arabia's oil infrastructure, including the "East-West" pipeline, which disrupted oil loadings and led to the cancellation of some European shipments.
