Jewish Man Freed From Iraqi Prison After 11 Years, Set to Immigrate to Israel

Benjamin Ben Limor, who spent 11 years imprisoned in Iraq and was sentenced to death, is expected to arrive in Israel in the coming days. His death sentence was overturned in November 2025 following a traditional reconciliation agreement, known as "sulha," with the victim's family, and a significant fundraising campaign. Despite the annulment of his capital sentence, he remained incarcerated.

Officials and activists involved in his case continued discreet efforts to secure his full release. A breakthrough occurred this past week, with backstage negotiations leading to authorization for his departure from prison and arrangements for his exit from Iraq.

Upon his arrival in Israel, Ben Limor is slated to begin a new life and has already been accepted into the foundational studies program at the Aish HaTorah yeshiva in Jerusalem. A new fundraising drive has been initiated to support his resettlement, covering expenses such as his flight ticket, clothing, tefillin, and other essential items.
