Israeli Sentenced to 13.5 Years for Spying for Iran
The Central District Court in Lod has sentenced Alexander Granovsky of Petah Tikva to 13.5 years in prison for offenses against state security. Granovsky was convicted of collaborating with an Iranian agent, for whom he carried out several missions. These included documenting power stations and the residential neighborhood of MK Benny Gantz, setting fire to nine vehicles, and spraying graffiti.
The prosecution stated this is the most severe sentence yet handed down in cases involving Israelis acting on behalf of Iranian agents. According to the indictment, Granovsky was aware he was working for an enemy entity but continued to cooperate, even requesting more significant tasks. He received thousands of dollars via a digital wallet for his services.
Granovsky also acted as an intermediary for the Iranian agent, attempting to find individuals with criminal records for violent acts. He was also instructed to destroy IDF uniforms. He pleaded guilty to charges including contact with a foreign agent, providing information to an enemy, and multiple counts of arson and property damage.
