Iranian Spy Sentenced to 13.5 Years in Israeli Prison

The Central District Court in Lod has sentenced Alexander Granovsky of Petah Tikva to 13.5 years in prison for offenses against state security, including contact with a foreign agent and providing information to an enemy. Granovsky pleaded guilty to all charges, which also included property damage and arson. According to the indictment, Granovsky maintained contact with an Iranian agent via Telegram, carrying out various tasks, such as documenting power stations and the neighborhood of MK Benny Gantz, and sending the videos to the agent. He also set fire to nine vehicles, sprayed graffiti, and was instructed to destroy IDF uniforms.

Granovsky also acted as a go-between for the agent, seeking individuals with criminal records for violent acts. He was aware the agent was hostile to Israel but continued to cooperate, even offering to undertake more significant missions. For his services, Granovsky received thousands of dollars via a digital wallet.

The prosecution stated that this sentence is the most severe handed down to date in a series of cases involving individuals who contacted Iranian agents through social media. They emphasized the gravity of cooperating with hostile entities and vowed to prosecute those who endanger national security.

The court, agreeing with the plea deal, highlighted the need for deterrence, noting that those tempted by financial gain to act for hostile entities face lengthy and heavy sentences. In addition to the prison term, Granovsky received a suspended sentence.
