Maccabi Haifa Transfer Collapse Linked to Unsold Player

Maccabi Haifa's attempt to sign Brazilian left-back Lucas Baros from Serbian club Vojvodina fell through at the last minute, according to a Serbian report. The Israeli club had reportedly reached an agreement in principle with Vojvodina to acquire Baros for approximately one million euros.

The deal was contingent on Maccabi Haifa successfully selling another Brazilian player, defender Pedroso, to free up a foreign player slot in their squad. However, when the transfer for Pedroso failed to materialize, Maccabi Haifa was forced to abandon the signing of Baros as well.

Baros was reportedly close to joining Maccabi Haifa, especially as his contract with Vojvodina was set to expire next summer. The Serbian club saw the current transfer window as their last opportunity to sell him for a significant fee.

Baros, who joined Vojvodina from Rio Ave for 150,000 euros, had become a key player and received praise from national team coach Veljko Paunović. However, he recently lost his starting position and has played limited minutes in the last four league games.
