Maccabi Haifa Transfer Collapse Linked to Unsold Player

Maccabi Haifa's attempt to sign Brazilian left-back Lucas Baros from Serbian club Vojvodina fell through at the last minute, according to Serbian media reports. The Israeli club had reportedly reached an agreement in principle with Vojvodina to acquire Baros for approximately one million euros.

The deal's collapse is attributed to Maccabi Haifa's inability to finalize the sale of another Brazilian player, defender Pedro. The club had intended to free up a foreign player spot in their squad by selling Pedro, but when that transfer did not materialize, they were forced to abandon the pursuit of Baros as well.

Baros was reportedly close to joining Maccabi Haifa, especially as his contract with Vojvodina was set to expire next summer. The Serbian club understood that the current transfer window was their last opportunity to sell him for a significant fee, making them amenable to negotiations with the Israeli team.

Baros, who joined Vojvodina from Rio Ave for 150,000 euros, had become a key player and received praise from national team coach Veljko Paunović. However, he recently lost his starting position and has played limited minutes in the last four league games.
