Maccabi Haifa Transfer Collapse Linked to Unsold Brazilian Defender
Maccabi Haifa's attempt to sign Brazilian left-back Lucas Baros fell through at the last minute, despite reaching an initial agreement with Serbian club Vojvodina. The Israeli team had reportedly agreed to a fee of approximately one million euros for Baros, whose contract with Vojvodina was set to expire next summer.
The deal's collapse is attributed to Maccabi Haifa's inability to finalize the sale of another Brazilian player, defender Pedroso. The club had intended to free up a foreign player spot by selling Pedroso, but when that transfer did not materialize, they were forced to abandon the acquisition of Baros as well.
Baros had become a key player for Vojvodina since his transfer from Rio Ave for 150,000 euros, earning praise from national team coach Veljko Paunović. However, he recently lost his starting position in the lineup, playing only 49 minutes in the last four league matches.
