Musicians Exit Ed Sheeran Tour Over Macklemore's Removal

Several musicians have withdrawn from English singer Ed Sheeran's Loop Tour in solidarity with rapper Macklemore, who was removed from the lineup. Among those departing are Finneas, Irish artist Aaron Rowe, Danish group Lukas Graham, and Irish band Beoga. They cited their decision as support for Macklemore, who was dropped after making pro-Palestinian statements at a September 4 concert in New Jersey.

Sheeran stated that the decision to remove Macklemore was made by the promoter, not by him. He explained that he spent a week in discussions with stadium owners, organizers, and activists but could not reverse the decision. Sheeran emphasized that while he respects Macklemore's right to express his views, he prefers his concerts to remain apolitical.

Robert Kraft, owner of Gillette Stadium and the New England Patriots, confirmed his opposition to Macklemore's appearance at his venue. Kraft cited the rapper's statements and imagery as offensive to the Jewish community and crossing the line between political stance and antisemitism. Macklemore denied accusations of antisemitism, asserting his criticism is directed at Israel's actions, not Jewish people.

The Israeli-American Council had previously launched a petition demanding Macklemore's removal from the tour. Macklemore was scheduled to perform as an opening act for eight of Sheeran's remaining ten U.S. concerts. The tour is set to resume on September 19 in Philadelphia, and organizers will now need to adjust the program for upcoming shows following the departures of Finneas, Aaron Rowe, Lukas Graham, and Beoga.
