Jerusalem Rebbe Visits Father's Grave in Safed Ahead of New Year

By כיכר השבת, חיים רוזנבוים
Translated & summarized from Kikar HaShabbat by baba
The story · English

The Rebbe of Ungvar, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Hager, visited the ancient cemetery in Safed on the eve of Rosh Hashanah to commemorate the 15th anniversary of his father's passing. His father, Rabbi Mordechai Dovid Ungar, known as the "Mishne Halachos," passed away 15 years ago. The Ungvar Hasidic dynasty marked the anniversary with a celebratory meal in their Jerusalem synagogue, where the current Rebbe spoke about his father's teachings and legacy. Due to the proximity of the anniversary to the holiday and heavy traffic, the Rebbe traveled to Safed with a small entourage to form a minyan, a quorum of ten men, for prayers at his father's grave. At the gravesite, the Rebbe offered prayers for the welfare of the community and individuals.
