Gaza Building Collapse Kills 20, Leaves 100 Missing

Twenty Palestinians, including eight children and six women, were killed and over 25 others injured when a six-story residential building collapsed early Wednesday morning in Gaza City's Industrial Street. Approximately 100 people remain missing, according to the Gaza Civil Defense. Medical sources in Gaza hospitals reported that five individuals were killed and over 15 injured by Israeli fire and shelling since Wednesday dawn. The Gaza Ministry of Health stated that 16 citizens were killed and over 25 injured, with several still missing under the rubble, bringing the total casualties from building collapses damaged by the war to 50.

The Civil Defense later announced the death toll from the building collapse had risen to 20, including eight children and six women. The 'Al-Saada' building collapsed suddenly onto its displaced residents, and tents adjacent to the building were also affected, resulting in a large number of casualties and dozens trapped under the debris. Civil Defense teams, in cooperation with Gaza Municipality crews, have been conducting search and rescue operations since midnight to reach those trapped and recover the missing and survivors.

Rescue efforts are facing extreme difficulties due to the vast amount of rubble and access challenges, with teams working around the clock amid fears of a rising death toll. The building collapse occurred amidst a continued large displacement of people residing in structures damaged by Israeli shelling, due to a lack of alternative housing in Gaza.

Previously, at least 34 Palestinians were killed and dozens injured due to the collapse of homes and buildings damaged by Israeli bombing, where they were residing, during the war on Gaza, according to data from the Strip. The article also noted that six people were killed and 71 injured by Israeli fire in the last 24 hours, raising the total casualties from violations of the fragile ceasefire since October 11, 2025, to 1,381 killed and 4,757 injured, in addition to the recovery of 831 bodies. The cumulative death toll from the war since October 7, 2023, has reached 73,795 killed and 174,869 injured.
