Trump Administration Eyes Massive $2.8 Billion Arms Deal for Israel

The Trump administration is preparing a significant arms deal with Israel valued at approximately $2.8 billion, which would include tens of thousands of heavy bombs and armor-piercing warheads. This potential transaction, described as the largest of its kind in recent years for such munitions, has been unofficially presented to relevant congressional committees.

The proposed package reportedly comprises 40,000 bombs weighing around 900 kilograms each, specifically 20,000 MK-84 bombs and 20,000 BLU-117 bombs. Additionally, the deal is expected to include 20,000 I-2000 armor-piercing warheads, designed to strike fortified targets and structures.

While the deal awaits final approval, a U.S. official familiar with the matter indicated that it has already been informally shared with the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee. The Trump administration is actively working to advance its approval.

This proposed deal surpasses previous agreements for similar heavy bombs. For instance, in February 2025, the U.S. government approved a deal worth about $2.04 billion, which included up to 35,529 MK-84 or BLU-117 bomb bodies and 4,000 armor-piercing warheads.

Heavy bombs have previously been a point of contention between Jerusalem and Washington. The Biden administration had halted a shipment of these munitions to Israel in 2024 due to the war in Gaza, but following Donald Trump's return to the White House, that decision was reversed, allowing for the resumption of supplies. According to The Washington Post, the delivery of such large-scale arms orders could span several years even after the approval process is completed.
