Ayelet Shaked Calls for Netanyahu's Resignation, Citing October 7 Failures

Former Justice and Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked has called for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to leave politics, stating that he bears responsibility for the failures leading up to the October 7th attacks. Shaked believes the upcoming Knesset elections on October 27th will not resolve the ongoing political crisis.

"I think Netanyahu should leave. He bears both the responsibility and the blame for October 7th. The upcoming elections will not have a decisive outcome, and I am looking towards the next round," Shaked stated, as reported by Israel Hayom. She added that a segment of the right-wing electorate currently lacks a suitable candidate, attributing this to the current government's policies exacerbating societal divisions.

Shaked also accused Netanyahu of refusing dialogue with opposing sides while complaining about boycotts. She explained her decision not to run in the elections by her intention to form a centrist political bloc capable of uniting different factions. However, polls indicated low support for this initiative, and potential partners were unwilling to compromise.

Consequently, Shaked has opted to continue her work in a development company and prepare for future elections. She anticipates that the October 27th vote will not result in any bloc forming a government, leading to a new political cycle. Earlier reports suggested that Netanyahu's departure alone would not restore international support for Israel, as the reasons for increased anti-Israel sentiment are not solely tied to the prime minister's personality, with experts believing a change in leadership would not end international criticism.
