IDF Conducts Three-Day Readiness Drills in Eilat

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) concluded a three-day military exercise in Eilat and its surrounding areas on September 15, 2026. Thousands of soldiers from the IDF's 80th Division participated in the intensive drills, which lasted approximately 72 hours without interruption. The exercise was designed to test the army's readiness for various extreme scenarios, including repelling a potential naval invasion, thwarting sabotage group infiltrations into the city, and responding to hostage-taking situations and border threats.

As part of the comprehensive training, military units collaborated with police and rescue services to simulate storming a hotel where hostages were being held. Additionally, personnel practiced responding to armed individuals on city streets and a scenario involving students being barricaded in a school building.

The IDF command stated that such exercises are crucial for identifying weaknesses, enhancing coordination between different agencies, and improving security in the southern region. Analysts noted that practicing scenarios like repelling amphibious threats and freeing captured facilities helps maintain a high level of personnel readiness.
