IDF Division Drills Maritime Invasion, Hostage Scenarios in Eilat

Division 80 of the Israel Defense Forces recently concluded an intensive, 72-hour large-scale exercise simulating extreme scenarios in the Eilat and Arava region. Unlike routine training, the drill commenced with a dramatic scenario depicting a maritime invasion by Houthi forces crossing the sea, landing in the city, and opening fire. According to the division's operations officer, Major T., the exercise was planned for months to translate identified vulnerabilities into large-scale simulations.

Thousands of soldiers, along with logistics, operations, and command personnel, were mobilized at 5:40 AM on Monday to respond to the simulated events. Over the intense days, forces dealt with a series of escalating incidents, including terrorists seizing a hotel and taking hostages, students trapped in educational institutions, and terrorist cells moving through the streets.

The exercise involved regular and reserve forces from Division 80, as well as police, fire and rescue services, and special units, notably the Eilat Counter-Terrorism Unit (LOTAR), a local reserve unit whose members are familiar with the city. "This exercise proved the deep connection between the fighters and the area," noted Lieutenant A., operations officer for LOTAR Eilat, highlighting that the soldiers operated in the places where they grew up and their children are educated.

The command emphasized that practicing such a multi-arena, coordinated raid demonstrates the IDF's increased preparedness along the southern borders, aiming to provide a comprehensive and rapid operational response to any developing threat.
