Eilat Man Charged After Leading Police on Chase, Barricading Himself

An Eilat resident in his 30s faces charges after allegedly evading police, crashing his vehicle, and barricading himself on the roof of a guardhouse at a school. The suspect had never obtained a driver's license and was driving while under two separate license suspensions, according to investigators.

The incident began earlier this month when the man was asked to pull over for a routine check. Instead, he accelerated, crashed into a traffic island, and fled the vehicle on foot, ignoring officers' commands to stop. He eventually climbed onto the roof of a guardhouse at the entrance to a school, where an officer apprehended him.

Following his arrest, the suspect allegedly hurled curses at an officer and made death threats against the officer and his family, including stating, "I will stab you, I will burn your children." Police revealed that he had never obtained a driver's license and knowingly drove while his license was suspended twice by the courts. He was also reportedly driving without valid insurance and in a vehicle whose registration expired in 2016.

The Eilat District Prosecution Unit has filed the indictment and requested that the suspect be held in custody until the legal proceedings conclude. "This conduct demonstrates real danger to the public, contempt for court decisions, and a lack of fear of law enforcement," stated Chief Superintendent Adv. Rotem Levi, head of the prosecution unit, emphasizing the need for his continued detention.
